We were honored to meet Hosnick Martinez, U.S. Marine Corps Veteran, and his adorable son and new Birdie, Tristan. They received their golf clubs and first lesson from Rhonda Ferguson, Senior Certified Instructor, PGA TOUR at PGA Academy World Golf Village.
We asked Hosnick to say a few words about his experience with our program, and he wrote this beautiful letter:
"Dear Will of Iron Team,
My name is Hosnick Martinez, and I had the honor of serving as a Sergeant in the Marine Corps for six years, completing three tours in Iraq. Returning home after my service was one of the most challenging battles I have faced, as I struggled with PTSD that deeply affected my personal life, my family, and my ability to maintain steady employment. For a long time, I found myself isolating, lost in the shadows of my experiences, unsure of how to find joy or purpose again.
However, I thank God every day that I am now on a better path. One of the most significant parts of my recovery has been the incredible support and camaraderie I've found through organizations like Will of Iron. The work you do is not just about golf; it's about giving veterans like me a chance to reclaim pieces of our lives that PTSD tried to take away.
Through your program, I have not only rediscovered the simple joy of having fun and smiling again, but I’ve also had the invaluable opportunity to connect with other veterans who understand what I’ve been through. Playing golf with them has been a therapeutic and empowering experience. But perhaps the greatest gift has been the chance to reconnect with my son.
Golf has become something we can do together, and that means the world to me. I am deeply grateful for the opportunities that Will of Iron has provided, and I want to encourage any of my fellow veterans who are struggling to reach out to your organization. The impact you've had on my life has been profound, and I truly believe that you can make a difference for others as well.
Thank you for all that you do, and for giving veterans like me a new lease on life.
With sincere gratitude,
Hosnick Martinez
Former Marine Corps Sergeant"

We salute Hosnick for his service to our nation. We are incredibly proud that we can provide him and his son Tristan a new bond through the beautiful game of golf for years to come. And most of all, we are grateful for his kind words about our mission and his invitation to other veterans to join our program.
