We were very fortunate to meet Timothy Aponte, U.S. Army Veteran. He received his new set of golf clubs and his first lesson from Jim Ragland at TPG Golf Performance Center.

A Life of Service and Beyond

Timothy shared his bio with us:

"I was born and raised in Massachusetts. After graduating from the New England Institute of Technology, I decided to enlist as an infantryman in June 1999. Upon completion of basic training, I was stationed with Charlie Company 2nd Battalion 187th Infantry Regiment in Ft. Campbell, Kentucky.

On September 11, 2001, immediately after our nation came under attack, our unit was placed on lockdown and began training. We deployed to Afghanistan from January 2002 through June 2002 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Upon returning from that deployment, I received orders and was stationed at Alpha Company 1st Bn 26th Inf., 1st Infantry Division at Schweinfurt, Germany.

Shortly after, our unit deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from January through December 2004. On December 18, 2004, our unit came under enemy attack, where I sustained multiple injuries during a combat patrol, which led to my separation from the Army in late 2008. I decided to attend Eastern Nazarene College, where I earned my undergraduate degrees in Theology and Philosophy.

As the years passed and the struggles became more apparent, I could no longer deny that I was dealing with PTSD. In 2018, I attended an intensive outpatient treatment program at Emery Healthcare in Atlanta, Georgia. Since then, I’ve worked as a peer support specialist at the Veterans Health Administration, and I currently volunteer with several Veteran’s nonprofit organizations, helping other Veterans and their family members.

I am blessed with one son, age twenty, who is attending Norwich University. I enjoy many outdoor recreational activities, such as biking, hiking, kayaking, fishing, camping, and now golfing."

Saluting Timothy Aponte

We salute Timothy for his courageous service to our nation and dedication to helping fellow veterans in their battle against PTSD. By sharing his experience with compassion and resilience, he is a beacon of light for those still searching.
