October 9, 2025We were delighted to meet this lovely couple, Corey and Lawanda Silas, U.S. Army and Navy Veterans, respectively. They both received their new sets of golf clubs and started their private lessons from Chris Yeager at Deercreek Golf Club the following week.
Army-Navy Couple
Corey served twenty-three years in the Army as an Infantry Soldier fighting the war against terrorism in Afghanistan, Iraq, and abroad.
"I believe this program will help me with my mental health. Learning a new sport and being sponsored by you, with clubs and lessons, is an awesome thing. Thank you for what you are doing for Veterans! Salute."
Lawanda served eight years in the Navy, specializing in Aviation Administration.
"I was lucky enough to have been stationed at NAS Jacksonville for my entire Naval Service. I hail from Charleston, SC, but have since resided in Jacksonville for the past 24 years with my husband and son.
I love the outdoors as well as fitness, so golf gives me the best of both worlds. I am grateful for this program and what it is doing for us fellow veterans to improve our overall mental health and wellness. Thank you both for all that you do for fellow veterans!"
