We had the great honor of meeting Gabrielle Salazar, Lieutenant, U.S. Navy, Retired. She received her new set of golf clubs and the first lesson from Jim Raglan at TPG Golf Performance Center.
Gabrielle Salazar is a native of Albuquerque, New Mexico. She graduated from Manzano High School in 2002 and joined the United States Navy under the Delayed Entry Program as an E-1 that same year. Later, she selected orders to San Diego, California, to attend "C" School and become MK86 Gun Fire Control System (GFCS)/SPQ-9 Radar Technician. Gabrielle's first duty station was aboard USS COWPENS CG63, homeported in Yokosuka, Japan. During this tour, she served as MK86 GFCS Technician and Workcenter Supervisor for the Ship's Armory. During this time, she was advanced to Third Class Petty Officer and Second Class Petty Officer.
Gabrielle followed orders aboard USS HUE CITY CG66, homeported in Mayport, Florida. In 2010, she was accepted into the Medical Enlisted Commissioning Program to attend Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington. Gabrielle graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in December 2014 and was commissioned into the United States Navy Nurse Corps. Her first assignment as a nurse was to the President's hospital, Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC), with interim training at Officer Development School in Newport, Rhode Island.
While at WRNMMC from 2015-2018, Gabrielle served as charge nurse of a 37-bed Medical/Surgical Ward for two years, then transferred to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. During her second tour, she was charge nurse of a 22-bed Multi-Service Ward at Naval Hospital Sigonella. Her next tour led her to NMRTU Parris Island, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, as Division Officer in the Acute Care Area. Her fourth nursing tour took her to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, in February 2022, where she served as the Charge Nurse of the Multi-Service Ward and as the sole Neonatal Intensive Care Nurse. Gabrielle's final tour in her Naval career was served at NMRTU Gulfport, and she moved to the retired list on January 1, 2025.
